EverQuest 2 Ranger Guide
2. You and Your Ranger
This section of the guide is designed to get you well along the path to becoming a ranger.
Included are tips on getting to and completing the milestones in your early levels quickly
and easily.
You can now choose to betray at any level via a fairly lengthy process that involves
betrayal of your starting city followed by quests to increase your faction with the new city.
If you want to play an evil-race Ranger you will need to choose the Assassin class at
character creation, and you can then choose to betray at any time after level 10.
2.1. Outpost of the Overlord/Queen’s Colony
If you’re a new player, you’ll find the tutorial zone very useful in showing you the basics of
interacting with NPCs, questing, and killing monsters. Once you have completed the
tasks in this zone, you can go to the Isle of Refuge – this where you’ll have the opportunity
learn many other skills that you’ll use throughout your travels in Norrath.
When you land on the island you will be at the Outpost of the Overlord if you have chosen
an evil class and the Queen’s Colony if you have chosen a good class. You will start with
a few simple items of equipment – some armor, weapons, and a vial of poison. Speak to
the NPCs in the area to get started on your first quests, which will reward you with better
armor and weapons. You can level up to around 8 quite easily in this starting zone.
Aside from the quests given to you there are a number of other things you can do on the
island. There are several quests which are triggered by items dropped from mobs, and
there are also two collection quests available here. These are done by collecting the ?
nodes that you will see as you’re running around on the island. There are several areas
which are safe for harvesting these nodes – these are the two beaches closest to the spot
where you first enter the Isle, the first goblin area, and the wooded area nearby with nonagro
spiders and deer. As you level up you will discover that there are many of these
collection quests to do (over 100 of them at last count) and as a ranger you will be one of
the classes which are absolutely the best at harvesting these nodes all over Norrath.

2.2. Life in the Big City
Once you decide to leave the island, head to the docks and speak to the captain on the
boat to head to your chosen city. Whether you choose to start in Freeport or Qeynos,
there are a few options available to you at this point. There’s a lot to do, and in the
following tables I have listed a lot of quests you can do that involve no killing of mobs at
all, but simply exploration of your new city. These are a great way to get familiar with the
city if you’re a new player.
You also now have the option to do some race-based quests in your starting village. On
the docks of each village is a mentor who will help you get started on these. You can only
do the quest series which is relevant to your race and starting area. These will eventually
open up new quests in zones such as The Graveyard and the Ruins in Freeport, and
Oakmyst Forest and The Caves in Qeynos.
If you have trouble locating any of NPCs, remember that you can ask guards where they
are – simply right click on any guard, choose the “find NPC option” then enter the name of
the person you’re looking for in the dialogue box that pops up. You’ll get a glowing trail
that will lead you right to the person you’re looking for. Even though you have track, this
is handy in the larger city zones, where you won’t have all NPCs on track from any single
point in the zone.
